4 Of A Kind
& Dado Moroni
Edgardo "Dado" Moroni, born on October 20, 1962, in Genoa, Italy, is a distinguished jazz pianist whose career spans decades and continents.
Introduced to jazz at an early age through his parents' record collection, Dado began playing the piano at just four years old. His formative influences included jazz legends such as Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Erroll Garner, Charlie Parker and Oscar Peterson.
Dado's professional journey commenced at fourteen, performing across Italy with notable musicians. At seventeen, he recorded his first album, marking the beginning of a prolific career. His international breakthrough came in 1979 when he collaborated with Swiss trumpet virtuoso Franco Ambrosetti. Since then, Dado has shared the stage with jazz luminaries including Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, and Wynton Marsalis.
Dado Moroni continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his exceptional talent and innovative approach to jazz piano. In 1994 through Dutch bassist Joris Teepe he met and became friends with percussionist Jeroen de Rijk in New York.
A few days later and together with Joris they went into a Brooklyn studio to record a trio album under Jeroen's name called 'Speak Low'.
Out of that encounter the '4 Of A Kind' music project came to life.
Over the years the group played - and still plays - on various occasions in Italy, Switzerland and Holland.
Funny enough this was in both trio and quartet settings, but always with Dado and Jeroen.
In the year 2000 'Cattin'' was recorded, an album with noting but one take recordings by 4 men in a church transformed into a studio.
Steven A. Cerra, Jazz in Italy: Dado MoroniDado Moroni is an example of learning the Jazz tradition by intuition and by training the ear to benefit from the contributions of those who have gone before. It is the way most of the early Jazz masters learned their craft. (...).
I was hooked; I wanted to hear more of Dado's recordings with their intriguing concepts and hard-driving style.
